After the devastation of Hurricane Sandy, millions along the East Coast are without power, unable to go to work and struggling to care for their families.
As lights turn back on, homes are repaired and our community begins the slow process of recovery, countless families still need help. Many in our region were already vulnerable—facing financial challenges, struggling with food insecurity and unable to meet basic needs—and unprepared to endure a crisis like the one we are now facing.
In partnership with United Way U.S.A., United Way of New York City has established the United Way Hurricane Sandy Recovery Fund. The Fund will address the near-term and long-term recovery needs of individuals, families and communities along the Eastern Seaboard that were impacted by Hurricane Sandy’s devastation. Contributions to the Fund will be used by local United Ways in Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Virginia, Washington, DC and West Virginia to serve families hardest hit by this disaster. United Way of New York City will manage the fund and charge no administrative fees.We ask you to join us in supporting individuals and families who will continue to feel the effects of Hurricane Sandy for months to come.
- Join the coalition of corporations forming to launch the recovery efforts by making a commitment of $250,000 or more.
- Set up an employee pledge campaign to support the Fund. Double the impact of those donations through corporate matching gifts.
- Engage employees as volunteers. Local opportunities to volunteer are available community by community. Dial 2-1-1 for opportunities near you. In New York City, call 3-1-1.
