Leadership Giving

The Importance of Leadership Giving

Vision, compassion and commitment are all characteristics of leadership. Such virtues are recognized by the United Way of Tri-County in establishing its Leadership Society. Members of the Leadership Society show true dedication to finding and creating community solutions, and we thank you for your commitment.

Membership in this society is attained by donating $500 or more. This may be spread across the year by payroll donation, or done in one donation by check, credit card or a donation of securities. The Leadership categories are as follows:

Builders Club $500 - $999
Red Feather Guild $1,000 - $3,999
Silversmith Club $4,000 - $5,999
Goldsmith Club $6,000 - $9,999
Alexis de Tocqueville Society $10,000+

The national Alexis de Tocqueville Society was created by United Way of America in 1972 to honor individuals and couples who demonstrated exemplary philanthropic leadership in local United Ways. Alexis de Tocqueville was selected as the society's symbol because of his insight into the cooperation and volunteerism he encountered here in America in the 1830's which he chronicled in several of his books. He wrote, "I have witnessed on many occasions these Americans helping one another without being asked to and with no expectation of compensation; this unity seems central to the great experiment of democracy in America."
