United Way Day of Action - FOOD DRIVE

Wednesday, September 15, 2010

Today, thousands of people in Massachusetts, and millions across the U.S., experience hunger because they cannot afford adequate food. Local families are struggling even more this year to put food on the table because of a recent rise in the cost of everyday food, combined with skyrocketing gas prices and the high cost of living in the state. In fact, many families and individuals who never thought they'd need to ask for help are now having to decide between paying rent, getting medical care, or buying food.

In response to this crisis, the United Way of Tri-County is collaborating with area food pantries to stimulate an increase in donations of non-perishable food items and at the same time increase public awareness of the growing issue of hunger throughout our communities.

On Wednesday, September 15, 2010, United Way of Tri-County will hold a Community Care Day - Food Drive with area businesses.

Anyone interested in volunteering should contact the Volunteer Center at 508-370-4834 or email volunteer@uwotc.org. Opportunities will include sorting and stocking at the UW Distribution Center in Westborough or transporting donated items from local businesses to the Distribution Center.

If you would like to make a non-perishable food donation, you are welcome to drop-off your items at the United Way Distribution Center, 111 Milk Street, Westborough, MA 01581. Drop-off hours are 10:00A - 3:00P, Monday thru Friday.
