Instron - Ecumenical Community Food Pantry - May 16, 2011

Monday, May 16, 2011

In the spirit of supporting and giving back to the community, 16 employees from Instron Corporation rolled up their sleeves on Monday, May 16th to take part in a United Way of Tri-County Day of Caring. The volunteers donated their time and energy at the United Way supported Ecumenical Community Food Pantry of Norwood, a local food pantry that serves needy families in Norwood and Westwood.

On Monday, the volunteers spent their morning sorting food donations that were collected by the National Association of Letter Carriers’ Stamp Out Hunger campaign. Stamp Out Hunger is an annual food drive coordinated by letter carriers across the U.S. and distributed to local food pantries. Last year the Ecumenical Community Food Pantry received over 20,000 pounds of donations that were distributed to the communities of Norwood and Westwood.

Ruth Taeger, Executive Director of the Ecumenical Community Food Pantry, was pleased to have the volunteers; “The support of the United Way and the volunteers they provide are essential for our food pantry. This group from Instron was able to sort the donations in a record 2.5 hours, a feat we have never seen before.”

Instron was just as enthusiastic about the day. “We were pleased to have participated in a United Way Day of Caring,” said Leslie Dixon, a Senior Account Representative at Instron. “Our crew enjoyed sorting and distributing the donations. Many hands make quick work!”

Taking part in a United Way Day of Caring is an opportunity for businesses like Instron to take a hands-on approach to improving their communities. The United Way of Tri-County and its partners understand that when you reach out and touch the lives of others you impact the community as a whole.

About the United Way of Tri-County
The United Way of Tri-County is a community building organization that brings people together to care for one another. We raise funds, connect volunteers, strengthen agencies, teach social responsibility, and meet the critical needs of the community with the help of people like you.

The United Way understands that you want to make an impact in your community. Our 75 years of experience also tells us it takes a whole community working together to have lasting impact. That’s why we’re connected to all of our communities through business, government, faith groups, schools, agencies, and ordinary citizens. That way your donation not only goes further, it goes where it’s needed most.

Using a system unique to United Way, volunteers who live and work in each of our 34 communities annually decide where funds are invested. Certified Partner Agencies submit requests for special program funding such as after school programs, affordable day care, job training, transportation for the elderly, and even basic needs like food and shelter. This Citizen Review Process ensures your contributions are invested in programs that meet the critical needs of our communities.

We invite you to be part of the change. Together, united, we can inspire hope and create opportunities for a better tomorrow.
