Make a difference this holiday season with "The Gift of Giving!"

Tuesday, November 18, 2008

Want to do something different and truly meaningful this holiday season? Why not “adopt” a local family. The United Way of Tri-County is looking for residents to give local MetroWest individuals and families a happy holiday season by purchasing gifts for them.

We have decided to focus our efforts this year towards giving children a gift of warmth and learning, always remembering that full bellies are essential to a family’s health and success. In our work with service providers, it has become evident that with the rise in homelessness across our region, there is a significant decrease in family time and healthy traditions. There are children in our area who face the unimaginable during the day and end their day wearing the same clothes they woke up in, sleeping on the floor. For them, the experience of being tucked in, of putting on warm pajamas and having a bedtime story take them to another place, any other place, is not their reality.

Here’s how you can help:

Call Jason Paolillo at 888-811-3291 x 4857 to get more information on a family you can “adopt”. The options for sponsorship are as follows:

OPTION 1:

Make a cash, check, or credit card donation to the United Way of Tri-County and we will use those dollars to purchase gifts and food cards for you. Our staff and volunteers will then wrap the gift packages for individuals and/or families.

OPTION 2:

For children (0-18) please:

  • Provide one pair of appropriately-sized pajamas, one age-appropriate & language-appropriate book (see list), and one age-appropriate toy (see list).
  • Do not wrap the gifts. Gifts will be put into a gift package bag.

Remember that people, whether children, adults, teens, or elders, have the same wants and desires, regardless of their means. All gifts should be unused and in original packaging.

For adults and parents please:

  • Provide a gift card for at least $25 to either Shaw’s Supermarkets or Stop & Shop Supermarkets.

We ask that you please try to fulfill all of the requests you take. We want to make sure that we have provided for everyone. If you are unable to meet all of the requests, please notify the us as soon as possible, so the individual(s) can be reassigned.
