Over 100 Staples Employees Volunteer with United Way

Thursday, June 16, 2011

On Thurs., June 16th, more than 100 associates from Staples, Inc.’s Staples Brands Group Massachusetts and China locations participated in a United Way of Tri-County Day of Caring event at the new Pearl Street Cabinet and Café, the site of the former registry building on 10 Pearl Street in Framingham. Jen Maseda, Vice President of Community Resources at the United Way, greeted the Staples associates, thanked them for their time, congratulated them on Staples’ 25 year anniversary, and commended the group on their community spirit and their United Way support.

Staples associates spent the afternoon updating the inside and outside of the building, preparing for the scheduled opening of the food pantry and support services that will soon be available to families in Framingham. Twenty-eight teams, five volunteers each, cleaned floors and windows, prepped and painted interior walls, landscaped the property and gave the exterior a fresh coat of paint.

"The Staples Brands group is honored to be the first group of corporate volunteers to assist the United Way in creating the largest, most culturally accessible food pantry and community service center in Framingham," said Dave D'Angelo, Senior VP of Staples Brands Group. "This opportunity has provided us with a multitude of experiences, allowing us to give back to the community, strengthen relationships and build rapport amongst our colleagues and the staff of United Way, and all work together for a great cause that affects so many of our friends and neighbors."

A United Way Day of Caring is an opportunity for corporations and their employees to give back to communities where they live and work. The United Way believes that everyone benefits when community members come together to support the common good.

"We appreciate the commitment Staples makes to go beyond doing "business as usual" and encouraging their associates and customers to contribute their resources, time and talents to non-profits that make a difference, like the United Way" said Barbara LaGrenade, Director of Volunteer Center for the United Way of Tri-County.

The United Way of Tri-County and Staples both support youth development programs in the Framingham community through support to the Boys & Girls Clubs of MetroWest and the United Way of Tri-County/Ashoka Youth Venture program.
