4th of July Reflections

Each 4th of July I am reminded of how incredibly fortunate I and we are to live in this country. A nation created by imperfect but inspired patriots with the highest moral and social aspirations and dreams for a future that provides opportunity for everyone regardless of race, color or creed. At the core of this social experiment we call the United States of America, is the belief that we are all endowed by our creator to be independent, hard working and engaged citizens who look out for one another not waiting for government to fill all our needs and wants.  This belief is witnessed abundantly through the thousands of individuals and dozens of companies who voluntarily give of their time and treasure in support of the programs and services owned, operated and funded by the United Way of Tri-County. These modern day patriots willingly and voluntarily seek out opportunities to improve the quality of life for their neighbors without expectation of personal gain. The French traveler and historian Alexis de Tocqueville found Americans to be highly unusual in this regard writing over 200 years ago “ these Americans are an atypical  lot, they go to great pains to help citizens in need often times total strangers without the slightest expectation of remuneration “. “What’s more they seem to draw energy and strength from these endeavors in a way that I have yet to see elsewhere in my travels”.

I urge everyone to follow the examples of those who have gone before us and help us build strong, vibrant communities one family at a time. Donate, volunteer, get involved.  Find out how you can help log on to www.uwotc.org

After all It’s the American Way!

I thank you in advance for your support.

Happy 4th of July to all.
