Tomorrow, February 11, United Ways across Massachusetts will join others across the country to celebrate National 2-1-1 Day, a day to recognize and spread awareness about the 2-1-1 program and specifically Mass211 in Massachusetts.
Mass211 is the statewide information and referral line for health and human services. Available 24/7 in 150+ language by dialing 2-1-1 from any phone in Massachusetts. Mass211 is part of a network of 211 programs across the country that helps people connect to critical programs in their local community.
Founded as First Call for Help in 1997, and operating for the last 15 years as Mass211, the program has helped connect hundreds of thousands of people with services for housing and utility assistance, food programs, mental health and healthcare resources, childcare, and so much more. When individuals need a helping hand or when families fall on hard times, Mass211 is there to help callers connect with programs in their area that can assist them as they get back on their feet.
At the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, Mass211 expanded its program to serve as the COVID-19 hotline for the Commonwealth. The Mass211 team, with support from the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, has stepped up to help callers by answering questions about COVID-19 testing, quarantine, and contagion and providing information to about services that become more critical by the day like housing, food and unemployment benefits.
Tomorrow we celebrate their commitment to service and exemplary action during a time of crisis and concern. We thank our staff for their commitment to providing first class service each and every day. Please join us on Zoom on February 11 at 2:11pm to recognize the outstanding contributions of Mass211 to residents of Massachusetts.
