Rolling block party throughout Marlborough Saturday will raise money for Marlborough Community Cupboard

The Marlborough Community Cupboard has seen a more than 25% increase in families needing food since the coronavirus pandemic began

MARLBOROUGH – Three Marlborough companies are aiming to bring a smile to residents’ faces while raising money for the Marlborough Community Cupboard Saturday.

A Touch of Class DJ’s, Fireside Real Estate and Old County Development will hold a rolling block party fundraiser Saturday afternoon. DJ’s from A Touch of Class will ride through city neighborhoods on the back of a flatbead truck playing music and teaching locals some new dance moves, said Ken Cosco, chief entertainment officer at A Touch of Class DJ’s.

The group will be accepting monetary donations – preferably checks made out directly to the Marlborough Community Cupboard – and non-perishable food items for the Marlborough Community Cupboard. Cosco hopes to fill an SUV traveling behind the flatbed truck with food. Donations can also be made directly by visiting the Marlborough Community Cupboard website at https://www.uwotc.org/MCC

“We want that SUV to look like a low rider,” he said.

Food banks in the area have had to significantly increase their output due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. The Marlborough Community Cupboard has increased its serving of families by more than 25% in the last few months.

“That’s a tremendous burden, a tremendous strain,” said Cosco. “There’s a strong need right now for food and donations.”

The route of the block party will remain secret to ensure crowds large crowds don’t form and social distancing measures can be in place, but Cosco said the party will stay off main roads, such as Rte. 20 and Main Street.

Cosco hopes the party will bring a level of happiness and expects to see residents dancing on their porches and lawns.

“That’s what it’s all about for us,” he said.

A Touch of Class plans to livestream the entire four-hour event on Facebook live – www.facebook.com/atocdjs. The event will occur from 12-4 p.m.

In the event of rain, the event will likely be rescheduled to Saturday, June 13.
