Volunteers and staff from the United Way of Tri-County (UWOTC) and the Marlborough Community Cupboard (MCC) helped serve ice cream at this year's event at the Marlborough Ben & Jerry's on Boston Post Road West. While Ben & Jerry's gave out cups and cones to fans for free, the shop invited MCC to collect donations for our food pantry.
Altogether, we raised $1,337 that goes directly to helping us feed the hungry.
“We are incredibly grateful to Ben & Jerry’s for their generous support of the Marlborough Community Cupboard,” said MCC Director Barbara LaGrenade. “Their support plays a vital role in helping us provide food and resources to local families in need.”
Ice cream lovers were lined up before the shop's doors opened at noon, and crowds kept coming until the event ended at 8pm. We helped scoop iconic flavors like Cherry Garcia and Phish Food to newer classics like Coffee, Coffee BuzzBuzzBuzz! and the bright blue Marshmallow Sky. It's a sticky, sweet job and we learned a few tips from the pros who work behind the counter. (Hint: keep the scoop in hot water!) We'll leave it to them, but we had a lot of fun and are so grateful to Ben & Jerry's for partnering with us!
Ben & Jerry's showed its support for MCC again in May by bringing its Ice Cream Truck to our MetroWest Corporate 5K in Marlborough and giving participants free cups of ice cream and sorbet. They also signed on as a Water Stop sponsor, helping make the event possible. That was a big night for us, made even sweeter thanks to Ben & Jerry's.
Thank you to Stephen Marcus, who owns the Marlborough shop and other Ben & Jerry's locations in Massachusetts, for supporting the United Way of Tri-County.
