WHEAT receives funds for senior transportation

CLINTON — WHEAT Community Connections recently got a grant from the Greater Worcester Community Foundation as part of the Worcester County Food Bank Fund to End Hunger.
 
The fund is focused on projects that offer sustainable solutions addressing hunger through advocacy and programs that incorporate best practices.
 
According to the agency, the funds are to make the WHEAT program more accessible for elderly residents.

Lyft and the Massachusetts United Way’s/Mass 2-1-1 are Partnering to Fill Gaps in Transportation Needs with Relief Rides

MA – United Way Worldwide announced today that it is partnering with Lyft, the fastest growing rideshare company in the U.S., to provide limited free rides to people with specific non-emergency healthcare transportation, employment, and veterans’ needs.  The program is now being piloted in 12 cities across the country, including some neighborhoods in Boston.  Mass2-1-1 is a free, statewide service that connects people to essential services in their community, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, by phone, text, and on the web.  

The Passing of our friend State Rep. Chris Walsh

We were sorry to hear the news that our dear friend State Representative Chris Walsh has passed away after a valiant battle with cancer.
 
Chris has been a long time supporter of our United Way, Mass2-1-1 and Call2talk. Along with Senator Karen Spilka and Representative David Linsky they have secured thousands of dollars of funding  for our organization and the people we serve. 
 

Roy-Pope and Morreale-Leeber Win United Way’s ATHENA Leadership Award

FRAMINGHAM – On International Women’s Day, the United Way of Tri-County hosted the 2018 Athena Luncheon to recognize 14 finalists and announce the two
winners of the 2018 ATHENA Leadership Award ® .
 
The winners were Nishita Roy-Pope, from Dell EMC Global Centers of Excellence, and Susanne Morreale Leeber, President and CEO of the Marlborough Regional Chamber of Commerce.
