How long have you been working at WHEAT?
Eight months

What is your role at WHEAT?
Office Manager, plus anything else.

What is a typical day like for you at WHEAT?
My main task is to ensure a smooth office operation which entails such tasks as answering the phone, making copies, sending faxes, overseeing projects or programs, and supervising, monitoring, and evaluating the work of staff. Most importantly I make sure we are ready to receive our clients. I also take part in recruiting, training, and overseeing volunteers when needed.

During our open hours (10:00 am-1:00 pm and 4:30-6:00 pm), I serve as the clients’ first point of contact. After warmly greeting the patrons, I remind them of any upcoming activities or changes in our schedule.

For any new or returning client, I provide them with immediate assistance through our local benefits (food pantry, store voucher, and Café meal) or redirect them to our Case Manager for more resources.

After closing the office to the public (1:00 pm-4:00 pm), I train the volunteers who come to help, organize my own work, coordinate projects, set priorities, and follow up on assignments to meet deadlines.

What is your favorite part of working for WHEAT?
I am proud to say that our friendly environment, staff and volunteers work together and care for each other as a small family.

What do you like to do outside of work?
I like to spend time with family and friends. I enjoy getting together and having a friendly meal, watching a nice movie or getting crazy at an amusement park!
