Ready To Read

Ready to Read Logo

Ready to Read is the United Way of Tri-County's early literacy initiative which began as an effort to equip young children with the skills needed to enter kindergarten. Ready to Read provides children ages 0-5 with 12 new books/year, 72 in total, to keep on their shelves at home.

Research shows the important role literacy plays in addressing achievement and income gaps in communities around the country and recommends early intervention through literacy programs specifically during those key brain-building years from birth to five when formal schooling begins – in order to impact a child’s love of learning, engagement in school, and lifelong literacy development.

By putting books directly into the hands and homes of young children, Ready to Read helps them develop the skills they need to achieve academic success in all subjects, graduate from high school on time, attend college and begin a strong career path.

A small investment at an early age makes a world of difference. In 2019, UWTC distributed over 1,000 books to 90 children at three program sites in Framingham and Milford.
