Heart of Hunger Challenge: Running in the cold to help us feed the hungry

Sandy and Eileen Walking in Heart of Hunger Challenge

Hip, hip, hooray to the hundreds of participants in our Heart of Hunger winter fitness challenge!

These individuals have committed to going outside—even in the cold and snow—and walking or running at least 1 mile a day during the month of February. It's a heart-healthy challenge and also heartwarming, since their registration fees go directly to feeding the hungry.

We're glad to have participants from not only our local communities, but from 10 states including Georgia, Connecticut and Delaware! Everyone who logs in their miles from each day in February will be entered into our raffle for prizes! Stay tuned for the drawing.

A huge thank you to our Heart of Hunger sponsors, whose support helps us feed the hungry: Reliant Medical Group, St. Mary's Credit Union, Boston Ability Center and The Gentle Place Wellness center.

“We are fortunate to have so many businesses and individuals support the Heart of Hunger event. We’re in our third year now and going strong!" said Sandy Baldi, our special events manager at the United Way of Tri-County. "Not only are we supporting food-insecure families in the region, we’re also challenging ourselves to get moving outdoors in one of the coldest months of the year so our own health benefits. It’s a win-win for everyone!"
